Vertcoin (VTC) is a decentralized cryptocurrency that was launched on 8th January 2014. Unlike many other cryptocurrencies, Vertcoin was fairly distributed from the start, with no ICO, pre-mines, or airdrops. The project's goal is to be accessible to everyone. To ensure fairness, Vertcoin is ASIC-resistant and uses the Lyra2REv2 algorithm. In the past, the project has even forked to demonstrate its commitment to remaining ASIC-free. Currently, Vertcoin can be mined using GPUs and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. The currency is based on the Proof-of-Work (PoW) algorithm, supports Segwit, and is complemented by LIT - Lightning Network, developed at MIT. This network aims to solve scalability issues faced by many cryptocurrencies while maintaining a high level of security.
